Blue Water Crab Cakes uses fresh crab meat that has been cooked and then picked from the shell. Although the meat has been cooked it must be heated before consumption. We recommend an internal temperature between 140-150 degrees during the final preparation/cooking. How to make crab cakes:

Crab Cakes and Crab Balls

Baking Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to bake at 375 degrees
  • Lightly coat baking pan or cooking sheet with oil or pam to prevent sticking
  • Place crab cakes or crab balls onto the pan or cookie sheet
  • Once oven is preheated to 375 degrees, place pan or cookie sheet onto the middle rack of the oven
  • Bake for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown and serve immediately


  • Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, gently flip crab cakes or crab balls. Continue cooking for an additional 6 to 8 minutes until golden brown

Pan Frying Instructions:

  • For best results use a Teflon or non-stick pan
  • Set stove to a medium heat setting
  • Fill pan with vegetable, corn, canola, grape seed, or another oil with high temperature point
  • Place pan on stove and heat pan fro 3 to 5 minutes (or until oil is heated to a medium temperature between 350-375 degrees)
  • Place one crab cake or 2 to 3 crab balls at a time in the frying pan. Always wait between 15 to 30 seconds before adding another crab cake or another batch of crab balls to the pan (this allows the frying pan to retain ideal temperature throughout the cooking process)
  • Repeat process of adding additional crab cakes or batches of crab balls to the frying pan in 15 to 30 second intervals
  • Cook each crab cake or crab balls for 15 minutes until golden brown
  • Gently flip crab cakes or crab balls with spatula after checking underneath for golden brown color
  • Cook crab cakes or crab balls for an additional 4 to 7 minutes
  • Use spatula to check if the bottom is also golden brown
  • Remove crab cakes and crab balls from pan, serve immediately

*For crispier crab cakes or crab balls, lightly coat each with bread crumbs before baking or pan-frying

Maryland Crab Soup  

Stovetop Instructions:

  • Set stove to a medium heat setting
  • Fill cooking pot with soup 
  • Simmer on medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes while occasionally stirring soup
  • When soup comes to a slight boil, remove pot from stove and serve
